Homeopathic Verus Herbal Arnica

Some medical advisers, like consultant pharmacist Kevin Leivers of the UK, have been recommending herbal arnica gel for muscle soreness. An herbal arnica gel may contain anywhere from 1 to 25 percent arnica plant, much more than any homeopathic remedy. In a 2002 study (Kneusel, Weber, and Sutter) on osteoarthritis knee pain, arnica gel had notable success in reducing pain and stiffness. Furthermore, arnica gel presents a testable mechanism of action.Arnica contains helenalin and related compounds, which are known to be involved in anti-inflammatory action. The concentration of arnica in gels is much higher than in homeopathic remedies and thought, by some researchers, to be a viable explanation for an anti-inflammatory response.Herbal preparations of Arnica are not the same as the homeopathic medicines made from the plant. In fact, they are very different. In herbal form, the amount of plant extract is substantially higher. Homeopathic remedies in fact contain only trace amounts of any active ingredient. While Homeopathic products can be taken internally for overall general pain. Herbal products should NEVER be ingested, and in my opinion are BEST for localized healing pain relief. Arnica in herbal form is restricted to topical (external) use only!Whether used as Arnica Gel, Arica Ointment or as Arnica Cream herbal products contain either a tincture of Arnica (alcohol base) or a CO2 extracted essential oil. The potency or strength of the product will vary by manufacturer. The strongest most effective Herbal Arnica product at relieving pain and inflammation I have ever found is Clinical Strength Arnica Gel.
